Lot Essay

This large pair of late Louis XV ormolu candlesticks decorated with cameos representing antique profiles of a warrior wearing a helmet, a maiden, and a male head with a laurel crown, is identical to a pair in the collection of the château de Versailles and displayed in the bureau of Louis XVI, formerly the chambres de bains of Louis XV (see illustrated).
