The pierced rococo base mounted with a Meissen group of lovers, modelled by J.J. Kändler, with a gallant and his companion in an embrace, the gallant's left hand resting on a birdcage, the rockwork base applied with flowers and foliage, before branches issuing French porcelain flowers, supporting a circular porcelain clock case painted with Kakiemon flowers, the enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters, signed 'CH. VOISIN A PARIS', the single barrel movement with silk suspension and verge escapement, the backplate signed 'Ch. Voisin Paris'

Lot Essay

The model appears in Kändler's work records for 1736; see Ingelore Menzhausen, In Porzellan verzaubert, Basel, 1993, pp. 92-93, where the full Arbeitsbericht reference appears and an example with similar colouring to that of the present lot is illustrated. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, holds three examples of this Meissen model, accession nos. 42.26, 1982.60.299 and 64.101.61. A group of the same model as that of the present lot was sold in these Rooms, 21 February 2005, lot 47.
