Washington orders the execution of a traitorous New Hampshire soldier. Following a General Court Martial in Albany earlier that month, Shem Kentfield was found guilty of “desertion and bearing Arms in the service of the King of Great Britain” and sentenced “to suffer Death by Hanging by the Neck untill he is dead.” Published in Fitzpatrick, Writings, 24:279.
