Lot Essay

The most significant trait of this watch, making it extremely attractive and sought after, is its enthralling red coral dial. Due to the natural variation in rock formation, each example fitted with a coral dial is unique, with each exhibiting a different veined texture to the last. This feature is so important that Rolex has even removed all numerals from the dial to draw attention to it, resulting in a clean (yet far from dull) design.

Further enhancing the appeal of this piece is the French calendar, a welcome addition to an already remarkable watch. The discs on the present example have acquired a deep ivory hue over time, wonderfully harmonising with the gold case of the timepiece.
