Fourth edition of an essay on the condition of the soul after death. 'The treatise deals systematically with poltergeists and malevolent ghosts, souls calling out for intercessory masses and spirits from Heaven and Hell. Jacob [...] wrote the treatise when asked for advice regarding a ghost haunting the Franciscan friary in nearby Leipzig' (Koslofsky, The Reformation of the Dead). Chancery quarto (218 x 140mm). 26 leaves, woodcut initials coloured red, rubricated (minor marginal worming, first leaf restored with loss to one letter, faint thumbsoiling). Modern half vellum. Provenance: 2pp. 16th-century Latin MS on endpaper, incomplete, in the form of a letter, possibly on a related subject – early marginal annotations.
