A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF GUHYASAMAJA
TIBET, 15TH CENTURY

拍品专文

Guhyasamaja is seated in vajrasana on a lotus base and embraces his consort Sparshavajra. Both hold the same attributes underlining the concept of symmetry on which the tantric student is supposed to meditate. It is suggested that all physical and mental phenomena have a symmetrical nature. The complex deity holds various attributes that symbolize the five Buddha families, including the vajra of Akshobhya, the wheel of Vairocana, the lotus of Amitabha, the jewel of Ratnasambahava and the sword of Amoghasiddhi. The vajra and ghanta held in his principle crossed hands refer to Vajradhara who heads the five Buddha’s or tathagatas.
