CHINE, DYNASTIE QING, EPOQUE QIANLONG (1736-1795)

De forme quadrangulaire, la partie supérieure est surmontée d'un personnage finement sculpté formant le bouton. Le premier représente un vieillard barbu assis au bord d'une rivière, un panier dans le dos, la face portant une inscription poétique à cinq caractères zaige chun xingqu ; petit éclat. Le second représente un jeune garçon rieur assis sur un rocher, la face portant une inscription poétique à sept caractères wuqiao zhuangshang qianqianzhu.

Lot Essay

The present fine quality of carving and some of the stylistic features are comparable to the ivory figures illustrated in Bamboo, Wood and Ivory Carvings - The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 2002, no.160 to 163. See a pair of similarly decorated Qianlong ivory seal boxes, from the collection of Dr Bussière, sold in Christie's Paris, 11 June 2014, lot 64.
