Lot Essay

In 2017, Patek Philippe unveiled its anticipated modern Calatrava, reference 5522A. Produced in a limited edition of only 600 examples specially made for the American market, this reference is highly sought-after by collectors. On public display at Patek Philippe's "Grand Exhibition" entitled "The Art of Watchmaking," which took place at Cipriani on 42nd street across from Grand Central Station, the watch is a commemoration with the sapphire crystal caseback which is engraved, "PATEK PHILIPPE NEW YORK 2017."

Similar in style to its chronograph counterpart, reference 5524G Pilot Travel Time, (please see Lot 93 in this sale), the dial is striking in matte dark blue with white gold luminous coated Arabic numerals, blued steel luminous hands and luminous center seconds. At a generous 42mm diameter, its boasts a classic aesthetic with a modern twist.

To the best of our knowledge this watch has never before been offered in public, furthermore this is the first time this reference has ever been offered at Christie's.
