MEZCALA STONE FIGURE, TYPE M4 VARIANT

With a narrow, celt-shaped body and a shallow cut between the legs, the soft facial features with the forehead adorned with an unusual symbolic motif of a stylized avian head.

Birds might play the role of messengers between the living world and that of the Afterworld and perched on the heads of figures; they may be poised to carry away the soul of a shaman.

Représentation d’un personnage au corps fin avec une faible incision entre les jambes, des traits de visages faiblement esquissés et au front orné d’un motif symbolique inhabituel en forme de tête stylisée d’oiseau.
