MEZCALA BEAD-SHAPED AMULET

Carved in the round with four stylized figures standing side-by-side; pierced longitudinally.

Gay and Pratt suggest that the small group of multi-figure amulets might suggest the monthly lunar cycle in four phases (ibid, pp. 206-207)

Lot Essay

Amulette de forme ovale avec un percement dans toute sa longueur et sculptée de quatre personnages placés en vis à vis.

Gay et Pratt suggèrent que le groupe restreint d’amulettes avec plusieurs personnages représentés peut évoquer le cycle mensuel de la lune en quatre phases (ibid, pp. 206-207).
