Lot Essay

The present chronograph is an attractive and well-preserved representative of a “Big Red” Daytona reference 6263, the name derived from the bright red "Daytona" designation, a most popular model in today's market. Consigned by the original owner it is furthermore distinguished by its very good overall condition and the presence of a second bezel, the original Guarantee and box.

The unrestored dial shows a vibrant red Daytona signature, the subsidiary registers have discoloured over the years to a very subtle dark brown “tropical” tone, a process occurring in rare instances and resulting in fundamentally altering the aesthetic and collectible appeal of a timepiece.

The case displays sharp edges, crisp and legible serial numbers, the case back is stamped 6263 and CRS. The pushers are the original version, highly sought-after by the most astute collectors as often replaced during services, crown and tube are likewise original.

Different versions of the model are described and illustrated in: Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 328 – 335.
