WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)
The bowl is thinly potted with rounded sides rising to a slightly flared rim, supported on a short foot, enamelled inside and out with a rich yellow enamel of deep egg-yolk tone. The base is covered with a clear glaze.

A Wanli yellow-enamelled bowl of similar size is in the Percival David Collection, now on loan to the British Museum (accession number: PDF. 543), illustrated in the R. Scott, Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares in the Perciral David Foundation of Chinese Art, London, 1989, no. 543, pp.18-19; another was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 30 May 2005, lot 1461.
