A group of 12 of these bi-propellant engines provided the Command Module with rotation control, rate damping, and attitude control after separation from the Service Module and during re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. The darkened ablative material of the thruster’s nozzle is indication of several test firings.

Apollo Command Module rocket engine, manufactured by Rocketdyne, steel and ablative material. 14 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. A Rocketdyne ID tag with a large R logo reads: "Propulsion System Component, Part Name: Rocket Engine, Part No. 99-106003 Assy.’, Model No. SE-8, Serial No. 4050594, Rocketdyne, A Division of North American Aviation, Inc.” With additional manufacturing information on the engine casing along with inspection stamps.
