MISSION REPORT – Apollo 11 Mission Report (NASA SP-238). Washington: NASA, 1971.

“It became clear that an automatic descent would terminate in a boulder field surrounded by a large sharp-rimmed crater…” — Neil Armstrong

SIGNED by Buzz ALDRIN on the title-page. A first-hand account of the Apollo 11 mission by the men who flew it—Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins—and compiled by the Mission Evaluation Team. This report expands on the crew’s report to include lunar descent and ascent, communications, all vehicle and mission support performance. The lunar surface operations are described addressing lunar geology, deployed experiments, and the performance of space suit mobility. A section covers problems encountered with equipment including the computer alarms during landing, the broken Ascent Arming circuit breaker, stopped LM timer, LM antenna issues, and difficulty closing the lunar rock boxes. Numerous pages plot the LM descent trajectory and final landing point, some 3.5 miles beyond the planned landing point. Tools Armstrong and Aldrin used on the lunar surface are illustrated. Photography on the lunar surface has been annotated pointing to exactly where rock and soil samples were collected.

8 by 10.5 inches. 217 pp. Illustrated with annotated flight photographs, images of tools, graphs, and related maps. Original printed wrappers.
