The first American in space Alan Shepard photographs Edgar Mitchell as he stands in front the U.S. flag.

SIGNED and INSCRIBED: "Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 LMP, Fra Mauro Base, Feb 1971.” During the first of two moonwalks, Shepard and Mitchell placed the United States flag on the Moon. Mitchell takes a moment to pose with the flag as Shepard takes his photograph. Boot prints and shadows of the Lunar Module and a communication antenna are seen in the foreground.
