Sale room notice
An analysis of the gilding of this table suggests that some elements of the table could be of an earlier date. The gilding of the central mask has an underlying layer of original water gilding, which could be of 18th or 19th century date, while the frieze also has signs of an earlier layer of gilding. There is additional provenance and literature for this lot. The table was with R. A. Lee, London and illustrated in an undated catalogue circa 1970s. Another table of this model but of larger size then in the possession of C.J. Charles, London, is illustrated in H. Cescinsky, English Furniture of the Eighteenth Century, n.d., New York, Vol. 3, p. 21, fig. 8.
