Our casket shares the same dimensions and close similarities with a casket which sold at Christie's London, 04 Ocotber 2012, lot 87. The front mount is fitted with a hinged, drop-shaped finial locking into a plain square plate. The presence of the base gilt mount, now lacking, is noticeable by the tarnishing of the ivory and the painted simplifed scrollwork designed to conceal its loss.
Another similarly proportioned ivory casket attributed to 12th Century Sicily was sold at Christie's New York, 7 October 2008, lot 42. Other caskets similarly attributed sold at Christie's London, 10 February 2012, lot 703 and 22 January 2014, lot 108.
