Lot Essay

The present reference 18038 is an exceedingly rare example of a Rolex Day-Date model called “UAE Desert Eagle” among collectors, made for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, featuring the UAE crest and his signature to the dial. Diamond indexes have most likely been added to a later date, in a very professional manner, further enhancing the appeal of the present Day-Date.

The "Quraysh Hawk", symbol of the United Arab Emirates, is printed in different 'padded layers', creating a tri-dimensional effect. At the center of the hawk is a polychrome enameled Dhow or Arabian sailboat, which is replaced today by the U.A.E. federation flag.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (born 15 July 1949) is the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and constitutional monarch of Dubai. He has held those positions since January 2006, when he succeeded his elder brother, Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. In February 2006, he became Prime Minister of the UAE.
