Lot Essay

Compare to a plaque attributed to the Grand Ducal workshops by A.M. Giusti (Pietra Dura: Hardstone in Furniture and Decorations, 1992, p. 56). The style of headware worn in the scene is typical of the mid-18th century and can be seen in plaques by Giuseppe Zocchi, circa 1760 (Il Museo dell'Opificio delle pietre dure a Firenze: Capolavori, Florence, 1996, pl. 450-3).
