A JAPANESE INLAID BRONZE PANEL
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)
Inlaid in high relief in various metals including shibuichi, shakudo, bronze, and copper and gilt details, with the Chinese sage Chinnan Sennin beside a tiger producing a Buddhist deity riding a dragon from his bowl to summon rainfall and end a drought, beside a banana tree on rocks and a small stream and long grasses, villagers in kimono looking up in awe, one of which holds an uchiwa (fan), the banana tree with purposefully rubbed gilt to signal decay, mounted in a wood frame
