COLLECTION OF EDITH DESALEUX (1918-2019)Edith Desaleux worked as a teacher at the Alliance française and lived in Shanghai in the 1940-50s. She was highly active in the cultural and art sphere between France and China and organized numerous international art exhibitions for important Chinese modern artists such as Lin Fengmian and Zao Wou-Ki. During her life, Lin Fengmian gifted her several paintings including the present lot as the evidence of their solid friendship. From among her collection of Lin Fengmian paintings, she donated the iconic “Pietà” to the Musée Cernuschi, Paris, and is now part of their flagship collection of the museum.
