AZTEC STONE SNAKE

The ascending serpent coiled three times with curling rattles on the reverse, its head with jaws wide open from which a human head emanates, the serpent with salient curling brows, bifurcated curling tongue, guilloche motifs running from the top of the head downward; in grey basalt.

Sculpture en basalte gris représentant le Dieu serpent Quetzalcoatl avec un corps sur trois enroulements dans le sens de la hauteur et une extrémité à la base en forme de hochet, une tête avec une mâchoire grande ouverte d’où émerge une tête humaine et des crocs qui remontent jusqu’au front, des sourcils frisés saillants, une langue enroulée à deux extrémités, des motifs guillochés qui s’étendent du haut jusqu’au bas du crâne et paré d’ornements d’oreilles.
