Lot Essay

This current zitan frame was probably made for a painted mirror, very popular during the 18 and 19th century in the Qing court. Compare to a very similar zitan frame of a reverse-glass mirror 'landscape' painting, dated late 18th-early 19th century, sold in Christie's Paris, 20 June 2017, lot 82.
