Lot Essay

BALLERINA BROOCH
It is rumoured that Louis Arpels, inspired by his passion for classical ballets which he followed closely at the Opera Garnier in Paris, had the idea of a ballerina brooch. Created with sparkling diamond and colourful gemstone-set tutus, the dancers are depicted in a wide-range of dance poses. This refined icon clashed intentionally with the restrictions and cruelty felt during the 1940s, which were marked by World War II.
