Lot Essay

The coat of arms on this precious Chinese lacquer boîte à jeux is identical to that found on the celebrated and elaborately decorated dinner service commissioned by Louis XV from the Compagnie des Indes in 1738 (see S. Castellucio, L'Objet D'Art, April 2011). Their closely related stylised foliate decoration and shared Chinese origin suggests they could have been part of the same royal commission.
