Lot Essay

'L'Afrique and 'L'Amerique' were two of the most popular case designs by the Parisian clock-maker and marchand mercier Jean Simon Deverberie (1764-1824). Two different case designs were used by Deverberie for these models, the more common swept oval base and the present arched type with aperture for his distinctive pendulums such as the present pierced figural type. The 'L'Amerique' design, signed and dated No.12 Deverberie due trois Pluviose an Sept (1799)', is in the cabinet des Estampes, Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris.
