Lot Essay

This work is characteristic of the group of pictures assigned to Girolamo da Santacroce; its composition and handling can be compared to the Holy Family with an Angel in a landscape (Venice, Museo Correr). The rolling hills of the landscape recur in that and in other works, for example in Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well (Venice, Gallerie dell'Accademia).
