The present Cosmograph Daytona is a highly attractive representative of the rare reference 6263 in 18K gold.
The case has evidently never been subject to careless polishing, underlined by the full proportions, sharp edges and crisp hallmarks. The dial is in original, unrestored condition, the well-preserved, slightly creamy luminous accents are intact and in a shade perfectly matching the luminescence of the gold hands.
It can be assumed that its solid gold ref. 6265 bezel has been added upon request by the original owner since the correct bezel for this model features the black plastic insert – a modification which however does not distract from the overall appeal of this fine timepiece.
A reference point for Daytona collectors, reference 6263 has become throughout the years one of the most coveted Rolex chronographs. Introduced in 1969, it is the sister model of ref. 6265 and replaced the first oyster chronograph, reference 6240. Offered with the upgraded caliber 727 as well as screw down pushers enhancing waterproof abilities, ref. 6263 bears the “Oyster” designation on the upper half of its dial. It furthermore differs from its sister model by its black bezel graduated to 200 units
