The present watch is one of the exceedingly few examples of Omega’s super rare reference CMK 2039 to appear in public to date.
Sold in 1938 it is one of the earliest watches from the series launched in the same year. Its most noticeable characteristic is the, for the time and still today, remarkably large size of 44 millimeters, rendering it a very contemporary look and feel.
The present ref. CMK 2039 furthermore impresses with a charismatically aged silvered dial with the superb sector scheme. Also known as an aviator dial, this style is often found on watches made for military or scientific use as is its movement, the pocket watch calibre 37.6 S.
When such a timelessly elegant and impressive case comes coupled with an incredibly rare, attractive and unrestored two-tone sector dial, the result is absolutely outstanding. The present watch will be equally enticing to the most experienced connoisseur of fine vintage timepieces in search of a new jewel to add to the collection, as it will be to the novice collector seeking a wearable and eye-catching vintage piece.
A watch of the same series as the present example but without sector dial is illustrated in Omega Watches by John Goldberger, 2005, p. 34.
