Lot Essay

This endangered species strap is shown for display purposes only and is not for sale. The watch will be supplied with a calf leather strap.

The Extra-Fort, one of Eberhard’s most iconic models, was launched in the late 1940s, the name taken from its sturdy case. It is considered the precursor of the firm’s chronographs made for the “sporty chic” market. The present example impresses with its, for the period, large size of 39 mm., the unusual dial layout and its extremely well-preserved overall condition.

It is fitted with the firm's calibre EB 1600, a slightly modified Valjoux 65 movement, with a rare column-wheel integrated single button chronograph mechanism. The upper push-button starts, stops, and resets the chronograph hand while the lower “pusher” is in fact a slide. When moved towards the crown it allows the chronograph hand to be stopped/started without resetting it while at the same time locking the chronograph button.
