Lot Essay

This commode is related to a mahogany commode supplied to George Finch, 9th Earl of Winchelsea and 4th Earl of Nottingham for Burley-on-the-Hill, Rutland, and attributed to Ince & Mayhew, sold ‘Simon Sainsbury: Creation of an English Arcadia’, Christie’s, London, 18 June 2008, lot 250 (£679,650 inc. premium). It is also interesting to note the constructional similarities with the preceding two lots and the use of the same handle pattern as lot 26.
