Lot Essay

The concept for this decorative four-fold screen is very similar to Rutherston’s work ‘Pastoral’ screen, which is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (Museum number: P.11-1938). ‘Pastoral’ was commissioned for the British pavilion for the 1937 Paris exhibition ‘Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne’, where it stood with modern furniture by leading British designers of the 1930s.
