A RARE TEADUST-GLAZED FACETED VASE, HU
QIANLONG INCISED SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The vase of hexagonal shape has a pair of rounded tubular handles flanking the neck and is applied overall with a finely textured matte glaze of even, dark olive-green color that also covers the base surrounding the mark which is covered with a brownish glaze, and the foot is covered with a dark brown wash.

Lot Essay

A similar vase was included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition, Iron in the Fire, Ashmolean Museum, 1988, no. 89, and on the front cover. Another from the W. W. Winkworth Collection was sold at Sotheby's London, 12 December 1972, lot 130. A larger teadust-glazed vase of this shape is illustrated in Chinese Ceramics in the Idemitsu Collection, Tokyo, 1987, no. 965.
