Le modèle de ce tabouret a été créé par le tapissier A. M. E. Fournier qui travaillait boulevard Beaumarchais à Paris, à partir de 1850. Ses pieds, qui se présentent sous la forme de cordons et glands de passementerie simulés sont significatifs dans le contexte du Second Empire en France, lorsque l'importance du rembourrage et des textiles a atteint son apogée dans la décoration intérieure, donnant ses lettres de noblesses à l'"art tapissier".
