Formé à la Royal Academy de Londres, l'aquarelliste anglais, William Carpenter, voyage en Inde au cours des années 1850 dont trois voyages annuels au Cachemire en 1853, 1854 et 1855 en y représentant la vie quotidienne à l'image de la présente feuille.
