En 1893, Khnopff réalise un dessin ayant pour titre Diffidence, ou encore La défiance ou Lilie. Cette œuvre qui appartenait à la Collection du Comte Théodule de Grammont-Croy à Paris est malheureusement disparue depuis 1929. Elle nous est connue par cette photographie rehaussée, dont une épreuve est le lot présent et une autre, portant le cachet ‘Alexandre/PHOTO’ est conservé au Cabinet des Estampes, Bibliothèque royale Albert 1er à Bruxelles.
In 1893, Khnopff produced a drawing entitled Diffidence, ou encore La défiance or Lilie. This work was part of the collection of Count Théodule de Grammont-Croy in Paris and unfortunately disappeared since 1929. It is now only known to us through this heightened photography, of which an example is the present lot and another, bearing the stamp ‘Alexandre/PHOTO’ is today housed in the Cabinet of Prints, of the Royal Library Albert 1er in Brussels.
