GM: "Bouchardat used the fermentation test, polariscope and copper solutions for the detection of diabetes; he substituted fresh fats for carbohydrates, advised the avoidance of milk and alcohol, invented gluten bread and advocated the use of green vegetables. In fact, he devised the most rational method of treatment of diabetes up to his time."
