FICINUS, Marsilius (1433-1499). De triplici vita; Apologia; Quod necessaria sit ad vitam securitas; Annotatio, [Basel: Johann Amerbach, not after 1498], 4° (202 x 145mm), 100 leaves, roman and gothic types, 3-7-line initial spaces with guide-letters (a few leaves slightly browned, a few marginal repairs), modern half vellum boards. Fourth edition. A medical manual written by Ficino as a trained physician, De triplici vita contains his most explicit statements on astral influence. He recommends health and dietary measures to ameliorate the influences of the stars, and he discusses natural magic and music and their efficacy in altering those influences. To counter potential attacks by the Church on his exposition on magic, Ficino wrote an Apologia explicitly denouncing demonic magic, which he published in all editions of De triplici vita.
