with shortened double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, hilt of characteristic form with down-scrolled quillons and three side rings filled by an engraved iron plate (wooden grip and pommel later replacements), mostly early 17th century -- 29¼in. (74cm) blade; and a pair of chiselled South American spurs, probably 19th century
