Each on circular base with reeded border and fluted centre, the fluted tapering stem with vase-shaped socket and nozzle, the swirling reeded branches with drip-pans, sockets and nozzles, the central light with detachable domed cover with ball finial, the bases engraved with a coat-of-arms and a differing crest, the nozzles and drip-pans with a further crest, three bases with wood filling, marked on bases, branch sleeves and nozzles
the candelabra 18 in. (45.7 cm.) high; the candlesticks 12 in. (30.5 cm.) high
weighable silver 62 oz. 9 dwt. (1,942 gr.)
The arms are those of Hodson impaling Woodcock quartering another, for John Hodson M.P. (1758-1828), of North Hall, Worthington and Ellerbeck, co. Lancaster and his wife Ellen (d. 1829), daughter of John Woodcock of Newburgh House, Ormskirk, whom he married in 1798. Their nephew and heir Richard Cardwell raised a monument in their memory in St. Wilfrid’s Church, Standish.
The later crest is that of Smyth of Heath Hall, Yorkshire.
