AN AMERICAN GILT-BRASS MOUNTED MAHOGANY STRIKING TALLCASE CLOCK WITH AUTOMATON
THE DIAL SIGNED BY WALTER CORNELL (1777-1856), NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, 1800-1810
The arched hood with ball finials and fret cresting, outset brass columns to the angles, the trunk with three-quarter columns and raised on bracket feet, the 13 inch square dial with painted and raised spandrels, Arabic hours and five minute markers, inner calendar ring, signed ‘Walter Cornell / No. 156 Thames St. / Newport’, the arch with ship in a coastal seascape moving with the seconds, the twin train movement with anchor escapement and count wheel strike to bell, Inventory Number H1543- and 'Sept '93 500(?)'
