Lot Essay

Cast in silver together with tenons below the feet to attach it to a separately-made base, this crouching ibis resembles composite examples made of metal and wood. Details of the feathered tail are incised in the rear section, and the feet are naturalistically rendered. For a similar example formerly in the Erickson collection, see acc. no. 86.226.19 at the Brooklyn Museum.
