The threats had finally come to be reality. After a prolonged period of equal part disdain and negotiation the rebel Federal League played its first game on April 13, 1914 in Baltimore. The home team Terrapins were pitted against the Buffalo Buffeds in the inaugural contest for the newly formed league. If its' nature of receipt was ever in doubt the approx 30,000 fan attendance quickly ended same as Baltimore warmly welcomed back "professional" baseball after losing its Orioles twelve years earlier. Absolutely beautiful original sepia tone image captured from the vantage point under the eaves of the home plate grandstand with game in progress behind the sun filled American flags draped throughout the stands. Fans are visible in every nook of the stadium and on top of houses outside the fence with remarkable detail. Titled at bottom in white, "Opening Day-Federal League-Apr. 13, 1914 Score-Baltimore 3- Buffalo-2-Attendance 30,000" along with "Hughes Co. Photo". Size is impressive at 9 ½"x36" in period matting and frame with almost no mentionable condition flaws. Although the outlaw league only lasted two season it remains one of the more important occurences of its type in the history of organized baseball having challenged the accepted norms of the American and National Leagues: EX-MT
