Light cream color Cayuga Sporting Goods "Regulation League" model baseball signed across the sweet spot by Landis in black fountain pen. Signature rates 8/9 out of 10 with Landis having added the date of Nov. 30, 1937 below. The ball itself if unused with very minor soiling. Judge Landis was one of the most powerful executive figures in the history of the game. Brought in to quell the 1919 World Series scandal Landis had earned respect for his hard nosed pursuit of justice as a Federal Judge. The baseball owners needed a figure to step in and clean up the game after the Black Sox scandal devastated fan confidence in the National Pastime. Landis was quoted in 1921, "Now that I am in baseball, just watch the game I play. If I catch any crook in baseball, the rest of his life is going to be a pretty hot one. I'll go to any means and to anything possible to see that he gets a real penalty for his offense." While controversial and at times insensitive to cultural issues of the period there is little doubt as to the signficance of Landis' contributions to the game.
