Mizuno model PR4000 bat as used by Rose to set a record at 3,053 career singles besting Ty Cobb's previous mark. Fittingly, Rose collected the milestone knock against Hall of Fame pitcher Steve Carlton. Bat measures 33 1/2" long and weighs 31.7 oz. Displaying evident use including ball marks, stitching impressions, grain swelling and red rack marks. Rose's trademark handle tape in circular pattern found on the handle properly toned from use. Vintage "14" written in black marker on both knob and barrel ends with additional "A" stamped on knob end. The end of barrel shows evident surface indication that it was likely corked as known from other documented Rose examples. Rose has signed the barrel in back sharpie. Attractive black ink calligraphy title under centerbrand, "July 27, 1984 Bat Used when Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's major league singles record 3053" signed by 'Lamb' whose was presumably the artist. The bat is accompanied by a letter signed by Rose on Cincinnati Reds letterhead corroborating use by Rose for the record single. Notable milestone game bat with unimpeachable provenance and documentation. Includes LOA from PSA (GU 10) and original l letter signed by Rose on Reds letterhead confirming use of the bat to hit the record single: EX
