Perfectly composed sepia tone captures Babe Ruth in full follow through with catcher and umpire staring in admiration. Photo measures 6"x9.5" with only light wear largely confined to corners/edges. Handwritten notations on back relay that it was taken during a 1929 exhibition game at Oriole Park and appear to be in Merriken's hand. LeRoy Merriken was with a photographer with the Baltimore Sun from 1924-1980. His focus on sports began with the first image he took of Babe Ruth posing with the International League Baltimore Orioles in 1914. A masterful rendering of the Sultan of Swat which is rates as one of the finest of its type we have encountered. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA (Type I): EX
