The US sanctions apply to US persons regardless of the location of the transaction or the shipping intentions of the US person. Non-US persons wishing to import this lot into the USA are advised that they will need to apply for an OFAC licence and that this can take many months to be granted.

This elegant ewer (aftaba) is very similar to an example sold in these Rooms, 25 April 2013, lot 103, and one in a private collection, attributed to 17th century Iran (Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India, London, 1987, no.209, p.156).
