Lot Essay

The inclusion of the elegant stellar cartouche with the gory hunting scene, surrounded by the unusual and highly creative border of entwined serpents, would suggest that this rug was most certainly a private commission. Sadly, it is unsigned but the intricate and accurate execution of the herati pattern field could only have been undertaken by an accomplished weaver which would suggest that this was from one of the better established workshops in the city.
