A one-page typed letter of 9 lines, signed, from Chartwell, Westerham, Kent, June 1955, to Miss D. M. Bayes, after the Conservatives had won the General Election: "I write to thank you for the generous help you gave during the General Election. We of Woodford can be justly proud of the results of our efforts. In addition to the very satisfactory majority achieved here, our helpers shared in the bigger effort which made it possible to retain Epping, succeed in Chigwell and to win East Walthamstow. Believe me I am very grateful."

Lot Essay

Margaret Bayes sat on the Woodford Conservative party re-election committee. Although Churchill had resigned as Prime Minister on the 4th April 1955, he remained Conservative M.P. for Woodford up until his death 10 years later.
