JACQUES SELOSSE
Jacques Selosse founded his Estate in the Avize region of Champagne in the 1950s, bottling the first vintage in the 1960s. Having taken over from his father in the 1980s, Anselme Selosse has sought excellence for the 35 hectare Estate, challenging Champagne’s old definitions by applying winemaking techniques of white Burgundy to Champagne. Having studied oenology in Burgundy rather than in Champagne itself, Anselme employed rather radical change to the Estate in the vein of dramatically reducing yields and farming organically among other processes. Anselme’s most important belief was that in order to make profound Champagne, one must start with a great wine for the base, which has led to the production of some fabulous wines. Fortunately, this radical processes that produced these excellent Champagnes have been seamlessly employed also by Anselme’s son Guillaume, as the 3rd generation.
